Sharing data and knowledge, especially at interdisciplinary level, is now recognized as a key to scientific progress and technological innovation. IIA activities through the thematic GENS (Geospatial Information and Environmental Knowledge Sharing) addresses some of the major scientific and technological challenges necessary for sharing the creation of new models of collaborative research and dissemination of information to different users (research, enterprise, government, citizens).
IIA has a recognized competence in international technologies for sharing large amounts of heterogeneous data (big data) from simulations, and remote sensing and in-situ.
IIA has developed the approach of mediation to broker for discovering and accessing heterogeneous data, today adopted in important initiatives and projects at national, European and international level, such as GEOSS (Global Earth Observation System of Systems).
Politecnico di Milano
Politecnico di Milano is a scientific-technological university which trains engineers, architects and industrial designers. Research has always been linked to didactics and is a priority commitment which has allowed Politecnico di Milano to achieve high quality results both at international and national level.
Founded in 1863 as technical institute, POLIMI now ranks as the 1st technical university in Italy (QS World University Rankings, 2014).
Research work in ENERGIC OD will be carried out by Department of Architecture, Built environment and Constructions (ABC) and GICARUS Lab in particular.
Regione del Veneto
The Veneto Region (VEN) is an autonomous body with its own legislative, administrative and executive functions. It has a special Unit for Spatial Data Infrastructure and Cartography within the IT department. VEN is member of the NEREUS Network (association of 27 Regions in Europe and 39 research centres and enterprises using space technologies).
It is chair of the GNSS Working Group and chair in the subgroup Land Applications within the EO/Copernicus of NEREUS. VEN is involved in various European projects for the standardization of the GeoDb and Cartography.
